Searching for oneself, by avoiding transformation. The Hollowing explore what it is to die. Losing your identity in the face of your new and longest lover, Death. He meets you softly, kindly but with a harsh emotional reality check, a ritual of feeling you must go through to be able to move on with your returning to the earth. A love letter to 1970’s folk horror, a genre that has allowed these taboo topics of sex and death to intersect; through a female gaze this project looks at Death in a personified way, allowing the viewer to come to terms with their mortality that is not a spectacle but a realisation that this is a collective experience, tied to one another and the earth.
